trends

Sol.One was featured in the article by Trends about the growing share of defensetech in Belgium.

Due to geopolitical instability, the defense market is on the rise. Start-ups and scale-ups in Belgium are starting to cautiously enter the defense market, while defense technology has been well established in de United States. Yet there remains a stigma around working for defense, making it difficult for such companies to secure capital. Sol.One mainly operates in civil aviation – both traditional passenger aircraft, drones and electric aircraft – but occasionally takes on work with a defense focus too. “The military also serves as a research and development hub for technology, from which civilian applications may also benefit. In Belgium, that’s not really elaborated on, and that’s a shame,” states our founder and CEO @Filip Verhaeghe. After all, civilian technology often stems from the defense market. Inventions such as the Internet, the GPS and even smartphones originate from military research.

The iMUGS project: from ground robots to unmanned air taxis (De Tijd)

De tijd

Our founder and CEO Filip Verhaeghe was interviewed by De Tijd – the leading financial newspaper in Belgium – about the landmark European innovation program iMUGS.

A program designed for the development of autonomous land vehicles to carry out their mission individually but also, critically, managed as a fleet. We summarized the article in English for our foreign followers. Read more about our participation in the European innovation project and how this will ultimately help us to make Urban Air Mobility a reality.
